The big unveiling!

Today was the day that months of hard work was unveiled. We sang our new school song for the first time, and we opened our friendship/memorial garden...AND we presented our 'Cultures of our School' fence mural
.
Wow! How awesome does our school look!!!
The fence mural art was done mainly in Term 3. Each class was given two cultures and two genders to research, design and paint. This was done in rotation as they had to be painted inside in Room 7.
The rocks for the friendship garden were painted by the Middle School. These have been set around the friendship bench and a plaque has been added to dedicate our Kowhai tree to the victims of the Christchurch massacre. This garden is a place for friends to meet, talk and reflect.

The song sounded fantastic! It is a beautiful piece that incorporates the values and diversity  of our school. Thanks very much to Levonne Phillips and Talia Heta, both of whom have worked on the lyrics and music for this amazing song.
Next time you visit the school, make sure you check the new installations out!

  1. I really like the art on the fence because it is great to show peoples culture of what they are and what they wear and I also have another reason that I like it because people can show how there culture is very nice.We have to respect every country not only yours, Every. So that is my reason about the culture art.

  4. Kia Ora Te Waka Ako, Brooklyn here!
I really like how our school has now shown where the students and teachers in our school come from. Something we could work on is making something to put at the feet of our cultural people to make it look a bit better. This reminds me of May Road school except they have it on their front gates and their people are going different things like playing sports and other things. If you would like to visit my blog it is herwpsbrooklynl.blogspot.com/. Bye!

I think that this blog post is really good. You told us about what we did on the day and showed us lots of photos of our cultrue people and the friendship area. Mabe you could of told us that each class had to have four people to unveil the people.( Two people unveiling each.) But you did a good job anyway.

  7. Hi Jia here. I really liked that we sang our school song to unveil the friendship bench. I also like how we have planted a tree to remember those who have died in what happened at Christchurch. It reminded me of when we were doing some activities for reading relating to the Christchurch Memorial. Maybe next time you could write about the ribbon cutting and you could add a photo of the words to our school song. Other than that the blog was awesome.

I think that the new look for the friendship is a lot better than it was before, also the plague was a really good idea so whenever you see you know what it means. But maybe next time you could try to make the video a little less blur so you can see the people better. Other than that I think that it was amazing.
