During the holidays Miss Daly went for a walk down to Waikowhai Bay. On the track halfway down she noticed lots of yellow seeds on the ground. They looked like kowhai seeds. When she looked up past the canopy of low trees she saw a massive Kowhai tree.
We decided to go down to the track and collect the seeds to see if we can grow Kowhai trees to sell to the community. We managed to collect quite a lot. It was fun looking for them.
We have found out that you need to carefully sand each seed to allow water to penetrate the tough exterior in order to germinate. Hopefully we will have some seedlings in 6 months ready to sell!
