Last tuesday at Cameron Pools we all got a great safety lesson in the water. We put life jackets on and practised entering the water safely. This involved jumping in the deep pool from standing on the side as though we were jumping off the side of a boat or wharf.
We then got in small huddles and held each other's arms and kept afloat, we moved together in a chain from one end of the pool to the other.

Next we had to practise entering the water from a lifeboat. We had to hold our noses and the front of our jackets and roll off backwards.
Then we had to swim under an upturned lifeboat and pop up inside, take a breath and then swim back out. This was so much fun! The lifeguard under the boat said the air got quite stinky after all of us had been breathing under there!
Thank you for sharing these moments with us. We are so lucky as a school to have these lessons available for our children. Such great skills to have.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Te Waka Ako, my name is Jonathan and I am a student in Room Hauraki at Waikowhai Primary School. I really enjoyed reading your learning about being safe in and around the water. Something specific I really enjoyed was when you went under the boat because it made me think of a time when I did that at swimming lesson.
ReplyDeleteSomething you could do differently is you could describe how some of the children swam or you could compare them with another animal. Thanks so much for sharing your learning, I would love you to visit my blog at http://wpsjonathanm.blogspot.com.
Wow that was amazing, the boat was so cool, it was upside down!!! I want to try it!! Mr R, please can we do this next time?
