Since starting back at school in Term Two the students of Te Waka Ako have been completing a Lockdown Diary.
It is filled with all kinds of different writing activities that are done each day. Most students are enthusiastic about this activity and are creating some awesome documents that they will look back on in the future with delight and fond or not so fond memories. Most days there are two slides to complete, but some days only one slide.
They don't have huge amounts of writing to them, but honest, good quality writing is expected. One of the slides was to write an acrostic poem with a word that is relevant to the lockdown event.
Many students have written excellent poems. Have a read through them and see how you can identify and connect to the experiences of others.
Loved reading all the different poems. Great to see the different prospectives of the students.
ReplyDeleteHi Te Waka Ako. Reading your poems made me smile and chuckle. I can surely relate to a lot of the experiences you shared. Good idea using different writing activities for your lockdown diary. Has there been a particular writing activity in your diary that you enjoyed doing? I look forward to reading more blogs about your distance online learning. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThe poetry is wonderful Te Waka Ako - well done, I love the variation in word choices to prompt the acrostics! Te Ana Ako have also been writing poetry as part of their writing activities since lock down began. You could check out some of their personal blogs for some examples of their work - they would love to receive some feedback from the older students in school.
ReplyDeleteI love the acrostic poems. They express the students feelings a lot. The poems are very creative and they are filled with expressions and emotions. It's great to hear what the some of the students have been up to, because of their poems. I love how they mentioned what they think about it. I really enjoyed doing this activity. It was very fun. I like the way you explained what the lockdown diary is about, Ms Sands. This post is eye-catching because of the different colours you used in some of the sentences.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed this week. Make sure to start next week with a smile, bye!!!
Hi Te Waka Ako,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your acrostic poems and can relate to your feelings during this crazy time. I like the way you all used different words to start your poems.
Keep these in a safe place. In years to come I’m sure you will look back on this time and the words you have written in your poems and diaries with interest. My daughter reminded me how much she enjoyed reading Anne Frank’s diary, and while our situation can not be compared with hers, I’m sure these times will be talked about in the future and you will have a record of what you did and how you felt.
Keep up the great work and stay safe in your bubble. Be kind to your whanau.
From Mrs Mackenzie
